soundcard and wireless installation?

Ok i have a Dell Inspiron E1505 i need to install my wireless card and my sound card they are my two major concerns. I have alsa installed as a module, when i type in alsaconf it shows the driver and says its installed. it allows me to adjust the volume in alsamixer my mixer program and everything but when i open a movie or mp3 or something i cannot get playback any tips? And i also wanted to know how do i install my wireless card help please?

oh, about sound problem....

I'm not a linux pro, so .....
if your sound card is found and alsa is installed, check out whether the output is set to ALSA.

I had this problem before, the output for xmms was OSS, i changed to ALSA then it worked.
