Unhappy Screwed things up with nvidia drivers

Ye, i know, i cause more troubles than solutions xD. But hey, it's linux, u can't just NOT do dirty work .

I got Debian Etch, Xgl + latest version of compiz... ye i like good graphics... and I got a nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (128MB)

Not sure how i installed the "drivers" for xgl... thing is that I wanted to update them since they were pretty old... and I went to nvidia.com, downloaded the right drivers of course, and installed them (i personalized my kernel, btw, it's not base, but i never had troubles, i actually did this millons of times xD).

Ok, once it was done... i can't start gdm :S Error? It shows a screen with nothing in it xD. A console window with nothing in it... u know =P... Am I initially got Xorg... should I... ... go back to xorg and then uninstall and reinstall whole xgl and compiz? ... any sweetier solution uh sorry for asking such stuff xD. Thx for ur time, i'll be waitin and searchin meanwhile =P......... but i got tired already xD. byez

I had a similar issue a while back after installing Nvidia drivers for my Geforce2 Go card in my laptop. The solution ended up being uninstalling, purging and reinstalling Xserver-Xfree86.

    apt-get remove xserver-xfree86
    dpkg --purge xserver-xfree86
    apt-get install xserver-xfree86

After doing that, I rebooted...selected 'nv' from the video driver list, and everything came up just as it should. Full screen, and lspci had my video card recognized.

I'M SORRY xD, now i'm compiling my kernel to install nvidia drivers and then xgl and stuff... ye, what I can do for nice graphics ^^. Thx anyways man, cya!!
