CUPS adds printer OK, but no test page!

    Kernel 2.6.16-2-k7
    CUPS 1.2.4
    Canon LBP3000

I have installed cups and run the admin tool via the browser (http://localhost:631)

Everything was humming along nicely, CUPS found my printer and suggested the correct model/driver (Canon LBP3000 CAPT ver.1.3). When I try and print a test page nothing happens. No rumbling from the printer.
I even rebooted into windows (dare i say it) and successfully printed to rule out something silly like a busted cable or failing to turn said printer on.

Can someone point me in a suitable direction? (give up now while you're ahead also an option)

    Wal

Take a look in /var/log/cups/error_log and see if it can give any hints.

Nothing appears in the error.log. I changed the LogLevel to debug in the config file. Now the error.log shows...

    D [07/Oct/2006:09:49:46 +1000] [Job 15] PageLeft = 14.4, PageRight = 580.8
    D [07/Oct/2006:09:49:46 +1000] [Job 15] PageTop = 830.5, PageBottom = 17.4
    D [07/Oct/2006:09:49:46 +1000] [Job 15] PageWidth = 595.0, PageLength = 842.0
    D [07/Oct/2006:09:49:46 +1000] [Job 15] Wrote 1 pages...

but nothing comes out the printer.

Well luckily canon have released linux driver for your printer - http://software.canon-europe.com/sof...675.asp?model= although it hasn't been tested on Debian yet. Hopefully it may work
Maybe usb printing isn't set up correctly, worth checking out just in case http://www.linuxprinting.org/printing-faq.html#q_1_5

Thanks for your help. I'm just guessing it is something to do with USB as CUPS reports no errors. That second link indicated I should have a 'drivers' file in
    /proc/bus/usb. Instead I have:

    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 001
    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 002
    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 003
    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 004
    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 005
    dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2006-10-08 06:31 006
    -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 2006-10-07 21:09 devices

Maybe this is normal for debian tho. I have plugged in a USB memory stick and it works which would indicate USB is working!

It wasn't all smooth sailing...for some reason i didn't have the gimp toolkit package?

Man this feels good. Thanks again for your help.
