Hi ,
I thought booting a linux from USB pen drive is great , so went for it.
I followed the easiest way given here.
http://www.debian.org/releases/stabl...h04s04.html.en

i.e. downloaded boot.img.gz & did a "# zcat boot.img.gz > /dev/sda"

then after mounting the key ,copied debian-31r2-i386-businesscard.iso on the USB key.

changed the bios setting , it booted well
but it sucks at two points
first it says that it can't find a kernel module
another problem is it can't detect network hardware ( i.e ethernet card )
( is there some problem in script , it serches for some files on CDROM , but there is nothing )

the same iso file on cd works fine.

any body with the solution?

btw i tried puppy linux & dsl before this . puppy wont even boot .then tried dsl with socalled flexible way. dsl boots but it
gives following error

Quote:

Scanning for USB devices... Done.

Cant find KNOPPIX filesystem, sorry.

Dropping you to a (very limited) shell.

Press reset button to quit.

I googled a lot for this & found that almost every forum has this problem posted, but no one seems to have the solution. Tried boot options like failsafe , nodma, acpi=off but no gain. also tried to change the case and location of "KNOPPIX".

thanx in advance
