gdm and X server
I seem to have a problem with gdm. I, who has had massive Linux problems due to my own stupidity, am sure I have done it again. I am reinstalling the OS with a 2.6 kernel and everything seems fine. Then after a reboot it says that an X server is running on :0 and so it will not work. It then asks to try a different one, and I give it to :10 before I eventually stop trying. I just installed from a CD with Debian 3.1 on it.
What is causing X to run on :everything ?

I am still a linux newbie so please forgive the boneheadedness that'll probably be in the reply:
The thing is, it was working fine before, it happend all of a suden, if it was working before, then it should not be the driver right?
Though if it is, how can I add it? my computer once started up immidietly goes to the GUI mode, where it starts to fail to get X server to start, and I can't seem to cancel it with "ctrl C"
