    starting x?

    Hi,

    I installed x11 no gone or kde etc via aptitude and restarted my system. I logged in and type startx but it says command not found any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

    I don't understand your post. Did you install a gui in addition to x-server or no? Also, did you try running the command 'startx' as root?

    Did you do "apt-get install x-window-system" ? That should install X and twm.

    Hi Daark,

    I did try that but i get a depedancy error, I"m installing from cd's because no internet connection on the box...

    do you know what cd it is on?

    I don't use Debian but when I install it for others, I usually do a netinstall so I don't have a clue where the packages are located if you have the full CD set.

    Did you add all of the cds you have (or the first three or four) using the command:
    apt-cdrom add
    for each one?
