    Is apt-get install secure?

    Hello everybody...

I use Debian 3.1 sarge. I ' ve been using RedHat 9 the last years so I am qiute new to apt-get.

I login as a normal user and then I su as a root in order to do apt-get install or update etc.

I was just wondering if this is secure. Is my PC safe while I apt-get as a root?
Should I change permissions in order to apt-get as a normal user?

I am waiting for your suggestions, guidance!

    Thanx in advance

Yes, as long as you install from safe sources. Check the content of /etc/apt/sources.list to make sure.

That would really be insecure. Means your normal user could install program without being root.

You can configure "sudo" if you don't like to log as root each time. Or you can use the apt-get graphical frontend "synaptic".
