    apt-get woes

Well I just installed Debian, after getting thoroughly sick of ubuntu's inability to allow me resoutions over 640 X 480. I found it odd that while configuring apt-get it was unable to successfully connect to ANY of the servers. I tried like 20 and none worked. I kept getting the error E: Unable to lock the administration directory, is another process using it. How could another process be using it if I am configuring it for the first time? I figured i'd just configure it once I got into the OS and started messing around. Same story, the only things I can get are on my CD.

Which version of Debian are you using ?

Are you sure no other porcess is using dpkg ? Perhaps Synaptic ? Or Update-manager ? apt-get ? aptitude ?

Only one of those can be opened at the same time.

Feel free to back with more details.

There must have been some process running somewhere that was using that folder because that was straightened out when I started it back up this afternoon. I am using Linux 3.1 r3 _Sarge_ - Official amd 64 version. The only problem I seem to have now is the inability to connect to ANY apt servers through any means. I am able to use lynx (which I installed off the CD) to surf the internet (sorta) so I know that I am connected. I am also able to do the apt security update thing. I have all 13 ISOS downloaded but really don't want to have to burn 13 CD's so I can have the apt stuff. Thanks for the help.
