Hi all,

I have recently installed Debian on my laptop in an effort to finally make the switch away from windows...

Everything was going okay, found a number of sites explaining how to install Debian on this machine, and managed to get everything working with a little bit of head scratching.

Unfortunately, I have done something - I don't know what - and the sound card no longer works. It is a i810 sound card, and I followed the instructions from the ALSA website for installing ALSA with this driver (this worked the first time).

when i do dmesg i get:

rem@govedo:~$ dmesg | grep audio
i810_audio: Primary codec has ID 0
i810_audio: Audio Controller supports 6 channels.
i810_audio: Defaulting to base 2 channel mode.
i810_audio: Resetting connection 0
i810_audio: Connection 0 with codec id 0
i810_audio: AC'97 codec 0 supports AMAP, total channels = 2

when i do lspci i get:

rem@govedo:~$ lspci | grep audio
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)

when i do lsmod i get:

i810_audio 21372 2
ac97_codec 11252 0 [i810_audio]
soundcore 3268 2 [i810_audio]

alsaconf detects an i8x0 soundcard and seems to configure that card, however when i try alsactl i get:

govedo:/home/rem/downloads/alsa-lib-1.0.9# alsactl store
alsactl: save_state:1163: No soundcards found...

please can somebody help me sort out this mess....

Thanks in advance,

Rem

PS oh yeah - the version of debian is: 2.4.27-3-386
