debian ftp problems firewall please help!

For some time now I have been trying to get my FTP to work. I first installed pure-ftp and then firestarter and allowed ports 20 and 21 through (along with SSH and 1024-65535 just incase). I also forwared ports 20 and 21 to my linux box's IP (192.168.0.102). I can connect through my Macbook's terminal through the router's IP address but once I use an FTP application (cyberduck) to connect to it i get timed out. I also activated a DMZ server to 192.168.0.102 just for good measures. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just to be clear, in both cases you are using your router's external IP address to access the server? Can you access any of the other services you have running (SSH) from outside your network?

I just tried to connect through SSH and it seemed to have worked! I was just doing basic FTP before... thanks for the hint.
