    KDE freezing up often :(

    I installed x / kde / kdm

first when trying to start x it was giving me crap about my video. I installed the nvidia drivers. then it gave me crap about the display, so i manually editied the config file in /etc/X11/ and added my monitors horizontal and vertical Hz + resolution

then it was giving me pointer core error, so I editied it again to just say PS/2 mouse in the device field. I also unplugged my PS2 mouse and noticed that my USB mouse worked fine once KDE had started without me even having to specify it in the config

So now im finally in KDE, and im clicking on all the menus seeing what kind of games, applications etc are avalaible

the first time it freezes when I open a bash shell
I hard restart and start doing some other things... then it freezes when im looking in some configuration option menus
    hard restart again
sit at the desktop, web browse.. works fine start clicking thru the menus to do something and it locks up again

this was all after a fresh install of the latest stable debian release

did I install something wrong??? :\

It's hard to say what might be wrong (it could even be hardware-related or something), one thing you might try would be to upgrade to the latest version (or perhaps try to reinstall KDE). Have you tried any other desktop environments? Fluxbox is quick to install, so you can see if it's a x windows problem.

is it best to uninstall it before I install it again?
If so what is the command for this??

Im installing fluxbox now... I wish there was something specific causing this crashing so I could try and fix it

I don't think you have to uninstall it first. If you want to, I think the command is 'apt-get uninstall X' where X is whatever you want to uninstall. Check apt's man page (man apt or man apt-get).

Another simple solution would be to reinstall debian. Yet another might be to try a live CD to see if it gives you any problems, if it does then there's a hardware problem somewhere.
