    Lost sound - cs4299

Trying to install ALSA, hoping that it would help making Skype work, I lost all sound.

My soundcard was reported by Kmix as a cs4299, and it ran on the drivers provided. Now, however, Kmix won't even start, and alsamixer spits outs out
    Code:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device
I can't find my soundcard at all in dmsg, and I know it was there before I installed alsa.

I'll provide more info, but I'm still so new that I don't know many commands. Oh, my kernel is 2.4 btw.
