I have two audio devices /dev/dsp and /dev/dsp1. /dev/dsp is my onboard audio and I want everything to go through the /dev/dsp1 file. Is there anyway to make this the default audio device?

What you should be able to do is to turn the onboard sound card off through the motherboard BIOS. This way, the system wont recognise it as hardware at all. this is the best way to ensure sound goes through the add-on sound card since it's the only one seen to the system.
