    newbie question

Hi, I have a problem as a 'newbie'. I solicited advice from a video4linux listserve, and I am not sure (quite) what the advice I got means or how to implement it.

Here is the first part I don't understand.

"You'll need to download a kernel source (or linux source) package,
they are in the main archive if memory serves."

I have looked for a package called "kernel source" and linux source in aptitude and in Synaptic. I haven't been able to find it. I am using a machine with Debian 3.1 (i think) that has a 2.6.8-3-686/kernel/. I got it installed on this machine using the "business card cd network installation". I dont' know my way around the directory trees very well yet, and I have looked for the following file as recommended:
"The file you're looking for is drivers/media/video/bt8xx/bttv-cards.c"
I can't find /drivers/media/video/bt8xx/ even as a directory. My version doesn't seem to have a /drivers that i can find.

    Please help this newbie understand.
    Thanks!

The souloution is there. you need to install the kernel source or download another and newer one and compile your own kernel.

The file what you search in the kernel source.

to install kernel source package do this
    apt-get install kernel-source-`uname -r`
