download testdisk. right click on downloaded tar.bz2 file and click on 'Extract here'.
this will create a testdisk-6.5 folder.
in terminal/konsole, gain root privileges ( su/sudo, or login as 'root' ), navigate to testdisk-6.5 -> linux folder.
    execute this
    Code:
    ./testdisk_static
select 'create' -- Proceed -- 'Intel' -- Analyse...
TestDisk will restore lost partitions and rewrite partition table.

    Good Luck !

Wow, casper, that "recovery" was fast...!

    Disk /dev/hda - 40 GB / 37 GiB - CHS 77545 16 63
Partition Start End Size in sectors
    D HPFS - NTFS 0 1 1 20543 15 63 20708289[LAPRINCIPAL]
    D Linux 20543 7 1 77535 15 63 57448503

The above is what i got after i did the Create, Proceed, Intel, Analyse.

Am i missing anything? Should one of the be the primary bootable partition?

i also got the error message that the number of heads was incorrect and that i could later change the number.

Have a great day and thanks!

P.S. 1 -- Since it gave me the option to try 255 heads instead of the 16, i tried that and it seems like it corrected the ending and starting block?, sector? or whatever as in below... This is what i "Wrote" to the partition table.

    Disk /dev/hda - 40 GB / 37 GiB - CHS 4866 255 63
    Current partition structure:
Partition Start End Size in sectors
    1 * HPFS - NTFS 0 1 1 1288 254 63 20707722 [LAPRINCIPAL]
    2 P Linux 1289 0 1 4864 254 63 57448440

    What do you think?

    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

    LaGrandota:/home/steve/My Documents/Testdisk/testdisk-6.5/linux# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    rootfs 28G 28G 360M 99% /
