    Question [sarge]trouble with usb mouse

    [solved]

    hi

I am new to linux and debian furthermore.
I've installed the amd64 distrib of Sarge from DVDs.

I can't manage to have my usb working properly. infact, it moves really well, but gnome doesn't seem to receive the click, right and left !

i have tried reinstalling and removeing x-window, xfree86 and gdm several times with apt-get. i've tried also dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 even many more times... but it helped nothing...

any idea where I could search, what I could try to have a clue ?

i have tried changing the XF86Config-4 files several times... with explorer/ps2 imps/2 or 3rd button emulation false... but it brought nothing new... and strangely it seems to confuse the dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86... that doesn't match with files...

    could you help me ?

it may not be because of the mouse, because it works properly on my multemdia-only distro 64Studio, which is also based on sarge... so it must be possible...

sarge does not have an official amd64 iso, so you must have got a unofficial one and may have problems if you do. debian etch will have official support for amd64 so try debian etch for amd64

thanx for the advice. I wouldn't have gone for a testing version unless you pointed me at this... and the result is brilliant.

[to solve this trouble I installed the Debian Etch Testing with kernel 2.6.18-3... and it works like a breeze... for the first seconds, a pleasure to install, a pleasure to use, and even my wacom tablet is auto-recognized... and I just had to do nothing at all to solve my mouse trouble... it was simply just ok... thank you guyz@debian... i still think i'll have to manually configure my modem... but let's see cuz that's another problem]
