    Screen resolution issues XF86Config-4

    Hi guys,

There seem to be a handful of people with similar issues but I have done some searching and still cannot figure this one out...

I bought a 20in LCD and the optimum resolution is 1680x1050@60hz and I can't seem to match that resolution in Debian. I have edited the config file and reconfigured but still cant seem to match the resolution... it seems to always go to 1280x1024.

    Here is my XF86Config-4 file:

    Code:
    # XF86Config-4 (XFree86 X Window System server configuration file)
    #
    # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
    # values from the debconf database.
    #
    # Edit this file with caution, and see the XF86Config-4 manual page.
    # (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.)
    #
    # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xfree86 package upgrades *only*
    # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xfree86
    # package.
    #
    # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
    # again, run the following commands as root:
    #
    # cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.custom
    # md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 >/var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum
    # dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

Maybe resolution not supported in Debian?

    Any help would be great!

    Video card driver

You are using the generic vesa driver, and that will give you about the worst resolution that the monitor is capable.

Try setting up X using the proper video card with the proper amount of ram listed.

    That Should correct your issues.

Which video card do you have ? The solution will depend entirely on that.
