    Flash 9 is only in testing at the moment. What you need to do is install flash player 7 (which should be the default flash player), then the '.so' file you get in the flash 9 download should be put into ~/.mozilla/firefox/plugins and firefox can be started. (Assuming you use Firefox). This will override the installed flashplayer then.

    I don't recommend Flash 7 unless you have just OSS (open source sound)
