    Trouble with SMB

    SMB questions

I am having trouble getting Samba to work on my Debian Etch installation.

I want the Linux machine to serve files and the Windows machine to receive files.

I am able to get SMB to work for Linux to Linux, but I cannot get it to work for Windows to Linux. On my windows machine, I go to view workgroup computers. I see the Linux computer listed (Zacklap server (Samba 3.0.23d)
When I click on the icon, I get prompted to enter username and password. This is where I get stuck, I cannot get the username I log into the debian installation with, or other test_user names that I created to work.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks,
    Zack

Check out this tutorial Esp the section re smbpasswd and testparm

Also are the Linux users able to login with the Samba username+passwords?
Life is complex, it has a real part and an imaginary part.

I'm a newbie on Linux so I can't say what made the trick but after a reboot with this smb.conf I can get access to my user directory using my user login.

    Eh, I just remember...
I guess you have to create a samba password with: smbpasswd to get this to work.
