    problem with .dat files

    hi everyone
    I installed mplayer in my system running on Debian Sid, but the problem is i am still not able to play a VCD in my system.
    I tried playing the same file using Totem but it gives an error

    Totem could not play 'file:///cdrom/mpegav/avseq03.dat'.
    There is no plugin to handle this movie.

    I tried with VLC player also but still it doesnt work
    I already installed all the gstreamer plugins but still it doesnt work
    someone please help me

    You also need to install the win32 codecs. If you used the debian multimedia site to install mplayer, they are there too.

    i installed them too but still i am not able play any vcd

    Also, after copying the .DAT file to your hard disk, are you able play it using mplayer?

    thnk u for the above reply i am able to play the VCD from the command line but the problem is i am not able to run it graphically
