accessing window network files from linux

Hey, I'm a college student and I just installed Sarge on my laptop. My school uses windows xp to the run its network. I have files stored on the network and I was wondering if there is anyway for me to access those files from my laptop. Thanks.

That seems to be the general thread I'm seeing with advice. Everyone is telling me to try Samba. I'll try it and see what I get. Thanks.

Also are there any good guides/faqs on setting up Samba. I'm just trying to run a basic X-server. I wanted to start basic before I use KDE or gnome. I would like to try to run smb from X-server. But any help will be appreciated.
