"expert26" net install option borks the install @ the download packages state

I believe i have found a bug in the debian net install disc (or at least in my copy of 3.1rc2) can anyone else confirm it? It appears when you select either the "linux26" or the "expert26" boot options at the F1 prompt. Somehow/somewhy the installer attempts to remove the running kernel image at the "configure and download packages" selection AFTER the reboot (into the fresh system), and it's all downhill from there.

For some reason, even though you are already running the 2.6.8-2 kernel (as provided), it attempts to remove it, as it senses itself for some reason attemping to install ANOTHER copy of it. I played with it a dozen times, and what i have noticed is the installer removes "initrd-tools" (or what ever it calls it now) and then senses an unmet dependancy for the kernel, but this is AFTER it removes "base-config" from the system (which it does the first time after it reboots when it connects to apt sources listed). At first, i thought it was a mistake because i like to install the 2.6 kernel and then hack apt into picking the testing sources, so i can jump up from the Sta(b)le versions loaded, but then i noticed that it did it on the stock "linux26" boot attempts with the normal base packages from the Stable repos.

If you attempt to reload the missing packages from apt, from the (somehow) still running base-config's lovely shell sessions, apt fails because the base-config attempts to run the "apt-setup" command which is borked by base-config being missing from /usr/lib.

All in all, i hope this is just an issue with rc2 of this disc, and i think i will finally replace all my copies lying around with rc4 if this is not an issue on that disc. Can anyone out there corroborate with this?

how does that saying go? "Testing" will break something?

well, that was it. removed the testing aspect from the equation and the install disk works fine, even with the "expect26" options.

    thanks for reading.
