    Exclamation Dependency Problems

    Hi Guys,
i'm a new incomer to wonderful linux system.i installed mandriva 2006 but i think it needs alot of dev files so i tried debian.it's very wonderful and very stable i got headache to install it but i learned from that and it worthed it.my question here how can i install new software for example battle of wesnoth which there is a new version not currently installed within Sarge there is backport but the depndency problem arises as i have to update libc6 but when i want to uninstall then install new version it seems to be i'll remove my all system

why couldn't the modifiers or the programers inlude the dependent files with the installation files instead of trying to install each alone ?...is it a programming problem because i feel this is the only defect in the linux instead of w$ u download and install...

Sarge is old, try using Etch or pull the packages from backports.

The version of wesnoth I have installed in Sid is 1.2-1 0, which is the most recent version.

don't remove the libc6 package just instal the newer version and debian will reocgnize it and upgrade the libc6 to the new version

thx guys but i don't know why for example wesnoth programmers don't include libc6 package within the game debian package.when i install it ,it looks for my dependent files versions and update them if necessary??

Simple answer packaging all the necessary files would make packages much bigger, and second packaging everything needed to install each app is really the windows way of doing things. Plus it would be a good way to break a system , by installing newer/older/conflicting libraries if packages came with them instead of relying on your package manager to install what was needed.

Use apt/aptitude/synaptic and dependencies are automatically handled for you.

auto-apt is a package that can come in handy as well.

The only time dependencies are really an issue with Debian is when you try to install from source or when you download a .deb package(dpkg will usually tell you what you are missing).
