    kanotix debian trouble

    Hey guys,

I recently reformatted my computer and installed Kanotix on my drive. I wanted to get Gaim so I ran an apt-get install gaim. Ran though and needed to shut down my KDM and X sessions, so I let it thinking nothing would go wrong. Little did I know it screwed everything up. I've been sitting here for 2 hours upgrading and installing new packages to see if it would fix the problem. I've upgraded everything from kdm to kde to xorg. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or somewhere I can at least start? Thanks.

Bugger. As far as I know Kano isn't doing any updates to the last version of Kanotix and the up coming version will be based on Etch/Stable.

You would be better off simply install Etch using the netinstall cd, or if you know how to fix problems going with Sidux, the Debian Sid successor to Kanotix.

Just installing Gaim shouldn't have caused that many problems.

Personally I run Debian Sid(Sidux) that was converted from Kanotix 2005-01, a little over 2 yrs now with no major issues.

Gaim does have quite a few dependencies:
