Applications installation via synaptic
Hi Folks
Now I have a working linux system am pleased as punch!! It's fast n slick. BUT yep theres a BUT when I install apps via synaptic only about a third of them appear in the menus. Why is this?? am using Debian sarge(lates netinst) booting into KDE gui but have tried Gnome(prefer KDE). AM confused as to what is going on. At present I now have several hunderd megs of harddrive space being taken up by apps I can't see and use.. Any help and advice most welcome BUT please remember I'm new to linux so need a stupid proof type answer etc
regards
Andrew

You might try running
Code:update-menus

type ALT+F2 and a small box will appear, try typing the name of the softwear in the box to run it.
press ALT+F2, and type k3b then k3b will run.
