Problems with my internet connection through USB

I have an old laptop I thought would be perfect for Debian, and I decided to go for the net installer. Trouble is, I can't seem to get my internet connection right. Theres no network card on my old toshiba, but I have a broadband connection with dhcp connected through USB. Most distros, like vector and DSL (even got it working easily on FreeBSD), has succesfully autoconfigured this, but I can't seem to get it right with debian. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm pretty sure there is no way to get USB network cards to autoconfigure for a debian network install.

You pretty much have to get a normal installation disc and then install your card with ndiswrapper.

I'm kind of surprised FreeBSD autoconfigured it... I didn't know Debian's ability to autoconfigure network cards was so poor.
