fglrx problems.
After reading through this guide I attempted to install the ATI 8.33.6 drivers. After I managed to get the drivers installed via method 2 lsited above, I reconfigured my xserver with "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and selected the fglrx driver. I then proceeded to keep all settings the same as I had before. When I restarted my computer at the point where it loaded Gnome my screen blacked out. I proceeded to wait a few minutes just in case and nothing. I also hooked up the second DVI output to my monitor as my monitor has dual inputs. Still no video on any inputs. At this point I pressed crtl + alt +F1 and was able to get the command line to show up. I then reconfigured the xserver back to the vesa drivers. After this when I was back in gnome/my GUI desktop I unistalled all the drivers via apt-get remove <name of the files>. I then attempted two more things. 1) I reinstalled the drives but thins time used the "aticonfig --initial" to configure my xserver in case I had accidentally messed a setting up. Still no joy, so my last hope I tried installing the fglrx drivers via "apt-get <fglrx-files>" I knew this would install the 8.28.8 drivers and I knew that those drivers were to old to support my X1650 and Xorg 7.2 but I tried and failed. I am running Debian "etch" kernel 2.6.18-3-xen-AMD64. Yes I'm experimenting with xen now but this shouldn't matter as the kernel is still base 2.6.18.3 right? I know my X1650 is working properly as when I boot into windows I am able to play Oblivion, Half-Life 2, and run 3D Mark 05/06 among others.
I'll also note that this issue started a while ago. You can see two previous threads I made, here and here. I've googled this for many hours and found no solution. ATI Tech support said, "Linux drivers are offered as-is".

Personally I install the ATI drivers as explained here, which is essentially the same as in the tutorial you linked.
The major difference is in /etc/X11/xorg.conf configuration. Myself I dared only once to use the aticonfig utility, with horrible results.
Just configure xorg.conf manually, as mentioned in the tutorial I linked above.
Also, you can always check the X log file for potential hints about the problem :
Code:cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

Well I don't know what I did different by following that guide but it worked! I'm now running the fglrx drivers..although I forgot to disable composite, so the drivers are fully running. Also I am unable to modprove the driver.

Anyone know why I can't get the drive to modprobe?
Also I can't get 3d acceleration. fglrxinfo shows:
I've added the no composite to my xorg.conf.Code:Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0". display: :0.0 screen: 0 OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.1)
