    Etch Netinstallation Problem

Hey all, I am using a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop and I downloaded the netinst Etch ISO, burned it, then booted to the disk. I use the
    Code:
    install libata.atapi_enabled=1
so it detects my hardware, and get as far as where I have to download packages, whereas it says that every mirror I choose is bad.

I believe this is a connection problem. At autoconfiguration, it fails to detect my DHCP connection, so I choose "manually configure connection". Here, I use the information I get from Windows (Start Menu>Connect To>Show All Connections>Wireless Network Connection>Properties) and it never says if it worked or not, but it definitely doesn't say it failed. I do believe that it didn't work though. Does anyone have any ideas to help me?

Note: I have been using Ubuntu for about a year and a half now (I'm not really a linux newb).

Is that the latest daily build ? Note that Etch RC 1 is broken.

As a side note, that is not necessary anymore, it should detect your CD reader nevertheless, with just
    Code:
    installgui
    or
    Code:
    install

As Vergil83 mentioned, are you trying to install over a wireless connection ? I doubt it will suceed.

What is your wireless network card ?

My wireless card is built into my laptop. When you say that it probably wont work, then how am I supposed to access the mirrors to download the packages necessary for a full install? Would I have to connect to my modem?

I have the same Dell inspiron6000 too. I run into the same problem and aborted it. Instead I downloaded the DVD images and finished my installation. Now am trying to configure the wireless network tool. If we have the same card, it should be Intel pro/wireless 2200BG or 2100BG. Hope somebody can drop few words on it.
    cheers -- emha

That doesn't tell us the model though.

Yes perhaps, that would be easier. A DSL modem ? Just use your laptop ethernet connection during installation.

This is very much a Linux friendly card, but it does require the installation of a special firmware.

That can be a solution too.
