You will need a Linux kernel 2.6.19 (or a heavily patched 2.6.18, like the Suse 10.2 one) and up for this motherboard to correctly work.
This issue has been discussed a few times already :

Don't worry : you can run Debian Etch on this machine without too much trouble."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

How can I put kernel (2.6.19 or 2.6.20) to boot CD and boot with this kernel?
Please help me.
Sorry I am a newbie...:-[... but I realy want to use Linux (Debian).
- 02-20-2007 #4That's what is explained in those thread I linked : you have to use a special installer :

Then you can upgrade to Etch (the installer install Sarge with a 2.6.19 kernel). Finally you can compile your own kernel to take full advantage of that Core 2 Duo CPU.
More info on how to compile your kernel (2.6.20 is suggested for that processor) :

Feel free to post back if all this seems unclear."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

and get same error about usbcore and disabling irq 19
Is it normal?
Shoud I try to compile kernel from sources?

One of those special installers work great, but it didn't give me a working graphical interface.

I can't install desktop-task or GNOME! It's a grave bug!
Unfortunately udev system conflicts against old hal package Sarge uses. And backporting hal package isn't so easy. If you succeed to build it, please tell me or upload it to backports.org.

This is bad for a newb (like me) trying to work with this. I started a thread about it over http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/deb...ow-launch.html
Maybe if you could walk me through the step you went thru ...

- 02-23-2007 #7Upgrading from Sarge to Etch is quite simple (once you know how).

Then :
Code:apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade

Thanks, antidrugue.
Currently inside gnome, downloading linux-2.6.20.tar.bz2. Again, thank you.
- 02-23-2007 #9Glad it worked for you.

And be sure to apply the latest 2.6.20.1 patch.
Also, make sure you choose "Core 2" as your CPU (a new option as of 2.6.20) in make menuconfig."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

When I run
I getCode:bzcat /home/billy/patch-2.6.20.1.bz2 | patch -p1 --dry-run
What does this mean?Code:can't find file to patch at input line 5 Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option? The text leading up to this was: -------------------------- |diff --git a/Makefile b/Makefile |index 7e2750f..d26f3f5 100644 |--- a/Makefile |+++ b/Makefile -------------------------- File to patch:
