Installed: prompt only | downloaded gde | how to launch??
Hello everyone.
I'm very new to Linux and I use Ubuntu (Edgy) normally. I set up a custom installed Debian on another partition to use as a sort of "testing arena".
This installation from custom CD went well. Debian is up and running. But it takes you straight to the command line login prompt.
I've installed the gnome desktop environment.
How do I get it running and get into it?
The following line,
doesn't start it.Code:/etc/init.d/gdm start
Would it be a matter of finding where apt-get put it and then running a similar command? No? What ought I do?
I tried performing searches on google and within forums. I think the terms I'm using to search are just a little too general.
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks to all,
billy mccann
