Re: Debian and the Internet

OK, my problems with re: to using the netinst cd have not been fixed, I've tried several times and still can't get it to connect to the Internet. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I could always download the actual install CD's... all 23 of them
, but let's face it who is going to do that?
In brief, if you can solve my problem in the related thread please go ahead but what I am really asking here is what CD's/DVD's are necessary to download if I want to install Debian Linux on a laptop. It's kind of a shame I'm having such a bad start with debian, because I know it's a good distro.
Thanks in advance for all input.

- 02-24-2007 #3Only the first CD is needed for a default desktop installation. While you are at it, you can try Etch instead of Sarge, with which you may have better luck (try the latest daily build, as RC1 is broken).

In case DHCP doesn't work, you can specify your IP, the subnet mask, and the server IP (in the installer itself), which are the only needed informations."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. As Antidrugue said, you can download the first CD then just get packages from the web, at least that is what I did.
