    sound problem...hopefully simple

    Hello friends,

I hope someone can help me here. I searched the forum threads and could not find anything that could solve my problem.

I recently installed linux (kernel 2.6.11, XP dual boot) and cannot get my sound up and running in linux (Realtek HD audio device). I went to Realtek and downloaded the latest ALSA files and tried installing them with their makefile script. All seems fine, then the script begins the alsaconf program and I get the following message, "No supported PnP or PCI card found". The same occurs when I run alsaconf on it's own.

I checked the PCI devices and modules info, and cannot find my audio device anywhere. I will put the system info below; hopefully it means something to someone. What can I do now? I hope that someone can help me here.

Otherwise, I am having trouble 'growing' in Linux knowledge. For instance, the info below is like French to me. I can understand a word here and there, but it means little to me on the whole. Can someone recommend a source, where I can really learn this material? There are so darn many books and websites, but the ones I've glanced at are either too simple or too complex.

Thank you sincerely your time and consideration.

    solved

Thank you for the reply. I solved the problem simply by upgrading from Xandros 3 to Xandros 4 (which was able to detect the on-board audio).

I posted to the Debian forum because I figured that Xandros has it's roots in Debian and perhaps the problem might be familiar to Debian users. In the end, it was the 'lazy' approach that won the day!

    Anyhow thanks again!
