Screen Resolution for XFree86?
i've got generic 'nv' (nvidia) drivers installed and i've looked in the XFree86-4 file and found that the only screen resolutions available to me (800x600 - 300-240) are not even in there. These resolutions should not even be available. i want a higher resolution setting.. but am not sure what to do. i am not finding anything that works.
Thanks

Wow, things are screwy. i've restarted four times since installing yesterday and every time something changed. Each time i had not made changes to anything. It must just take a few boot ups to get things to fall into place.
My screen resolution is in good shape now. Runs how it should.

I had some pretty screwy problems with XF86 and nv. I would recommend upgrading Debian to etch, which has xorg. Worked MUCH better for me.
In case you are new to linux and don't know how to upgrade to etch just:
-get a recent kernel (this is the hard part if youre new)
-replace 'stable' with 'testing' in your /etc/apt/sources.lst
-kill x (ctrl alt f1)
-stop gdm:
$ /etc/init.d/gdm stop
-update package lists:
# apt-get update
-upgrade all installed pacakges:
# agt-get dist-upgrade
