    Quick question?

Hey, umm. I'm pretty new to Linux. I know what it is and stuff but this is my first real attempt to take the leap from Windows to Linux, and possibly just as something of an experiment at least to start with.

    My question is this:

Official jigdo files for the "stable" release on CD:
[alpha] [arm] [hppa] [i386] [ia64] [m68k] [mips] [mipsel] [powerpc] [sparc] [s390] [source]

I'm going to use Debian, I've decided--or that's at least going to be my first good install--but, I don't know which one of those I should download. It says it depends on the architecture. I'm assuming that has to do with the components in the computer?

The computer I'm using for this is an old Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop that I *think* was just the standard set-up, XP, Intel Mobile Centrino Processor, blah blah blah blah blah. Nothing real special or interesting about it besides the fact that it was a piece of ****.

Anyway, thanks in advance for the help. I hope this isn't a question that has been asked 235729854375 times and I'm just missing it; apologies it is is.

You're looking for the 386 architecture , which basically refers to the lowest common denominator of intel based CPUs at this stage. The architecture referred to is actually the CPU type.

    Good luck!
