    Installing Joomla - need help!

    Hi.

I have set up a Debian LAMP server. (Debian, Appache2, MySQL, PHP4)

PHP test page, and PHPmyAdmin works. Along with the Apache2 placement test page.

I am now trying to install Joomla - a content management system. (www.joomla.org) The problem is I don't have an inkling of a clue where to start. Help please! Anyone who has done this before...please give me a hand!

Download Joomla package. Extract and copy it to your web directory. Now you might need to open joomla/install.php or something. It's written in the doc that comes along with the package.

The installation is very easy. I have done that.

Documentation for the install process is included in a section of their sourceforge page.

I have downloaded and extracted the files.

I placed them in this directory: /var/www/joomla/joomla1.0.9

My current problem lies in creating a database for the installation on my MySQL server. (I'm using PHPmyAdmin to access this server through a different computer)

When making a new database, it prompts for a "table" I don't know what all the values mean. Anyone have an idea?

The tables will be created automatically during Joomla's installation. You need not bother about that.

Ok. I've finally managed to come to the point where I am able to access the "web based install" from a different workstation.

But it seems my file permissions are set wrong, as all the files in the lower part of the screen are 'unwritable.'
    How do I fix this?

Also, the web installer tells me that MySQL support is unavailable. phpMyAdmin works fine, other then that I don't have a clue what else I could be doing. Any Ideas?
