gnome - shutdown button lost
Hi,
The shutdown button has disappeared in Desktop menu. I suppose it should be set in Configuration editor but do not find the variable. I have more users on my system but apparently also with other username I am unable to shutdown the computer from gui. I am using debian, gdm, gnome 2.14.3.
Iwould appreciate any kind of help.
Best regards
Daniel

Some desktop managers can cause that to happen. Have you installed any odd desktop or window manager?

I was simply trying new themes and logon screens. I did not install anything, I chose them from the menu available since I installed the system (deb etch). After I set back the original theme and logon screen the same problem remained.

There is a way to manually add buttons to the menu but it's pretty tedious. Before you look into that... Have you tried setting the login settings to defaults using the "set to defaults" button (Or whatever the 'default' button is called in Deb).
