How stable is Sid?
I've been keeping my apt sources pointing to the "testing"distribution, so that when the testing branch goes stable, I automatically move to the next testing branch. As we all know, Etch was due to go stable several months ago, but has been delayed. Although Etch is still not ready to go, there has been a package freeze for some time. So many of the programs on my system continue to get further out of date. What I'm thinking of doing at this point is jumping the gun a bit by changing my apt sources to point to "Sid."
As you can probably tell, I'm not as concerned with stability as I am with having recent versions of software. I'm not running mission-critical systems here, just a desktop and laptop for my personal home use. But I'd like a decent level of reliability. So if you're running Sid, I'd like to hear if it's given you any problems.Stand up and be counted as a Linux user!

With the imminent release of Etch, almost all resources are directed towards it. So there hasn't been much development in Sid recently. Packages version in Sid are very much the same as the ones in Etch these days.
Right now Sid is quite stable. No doubt it will get a big step forward (toward more recent packages) when Etch is release (tomorrow apparently, according to this).
I used to follow Sid, and liked it very much. Generally no real trouble."To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow."

I agree with what antidrudge said, etch and sid are pretty similar currently and pretty stable. As soon as etch is released, the big things coming into sid (my guess) will be xorg 7.2 (in experimental currently), linux kernel 2.6.20, and Gnome 2.18 (basically skipping 2.16). I don't know if anything is happening in kde.

They'd planned to have fewer than 20 by last week, but with bugs being opened up at about the same rate others are squashed, I have to wonder if Etch will ever go stable.

This is not what I wanted to hear.
