Corrupt packages file, system segfaults
I just tried to install Etch and have been having fun for a day or two but then today when I ran apt-get to update the packages I noticed that one of the packages files downloaded from the purdue.edu mirror was corrupt. I tried using another mirror and still got weird corruption in the file, dpkg would complain about it (once I saw a ctrl-b in a description line) and then all of my programs started segfaulting ...... after one too many segmentation fault message and X now complaining that there's a problem wtih ld.so, I wonder if I have some kind of big problem on the system. I can't do anything without it crashing now. I tried my DVD rescue disk and the system tells me that even THAT is corrupted! But it worked fine the other day, so I have a feeling that something else is going on. Where do I start, what can I do?
