    Etch not shutting down

Hi there I installed Debian Etch, the first night everything was all rigth but the other day I couldnt turn the computer off. It gets stuck on System Halted and nothing happens after that. I had to turn it off manually. Could you please help me? I already searched google and found out that the problem might be with ACPI or APM but I dont know how to find out...Thx

ACPI is used to call for the system poweroff. So, ACPI must be enabled.
It also depends on the system (older BIOS does not have support and APM
    was used in older bios).

Try passing the option nolapic in the kernel to check if it is able to switch off
    the system.

    Re

Well I found out what the reason was but still no solution though - this thing happens when I upgrade to 2.6.18-4 kernel (2.6.18-3 installed as default). Any suggestions?
