    Etch Installing Wrong Video Drivers?

    Hi

I'm trying to install debian Etch, via netinstall. My system has an Ati Rage motherboard chip, but an ati 9250 card that I actually use. Unfortunately the install seems to recognise only the mobo chip, as that is all that is mentioned in xorg.conf, and I am unable to start X.

I'm pretty new to this: anyone any ideas what I do next?

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply: sadly no, no way to disable the onboard video.

I finally managed to install everything ok, so I'll say here what I did in case it helps anyone else:

in 'xorg.conf' I changed under Drivers where it said 'ati', replacing it with 'radeon'

On trying to startx with this, the error came up that there was no matching Device section for interface PCI:0:7:0

The original xorg.conf showed the mobo ati card to be at PCI:0:2:0, so I guessed the '7' referred to the position of my radeon card, so I edited xorg.conf again, and put in PCI:0:7:0.

    It worked!

    Phew!
