Newer programs and removing old ones?
I have read a lot of stuff and forgot most of it but I keep reading or did not really completely understand most of it but I still learned a few things. But as Bart would say I still eat my shorts
Here are a few questions...
1) I installed gnochm but I am not sure if after the installation is done if there are files that need to be removed?
If so where are they?
2) a.I have installed Firefox 2.0 I hope it is "Iceweasel 2.0.0.3"as per steps posted on this forum Is there install file to be remove?
b. Now that I am using Firefox 2.0 "Iceweasel 2.0.0.3 and Icedove 1.5.0.10 should I remove the Epiphany web browser and the evolution mail?
and how do I make Firefox 2.0 "Iceweasel 2.0.0.3 the defaults?
3) I still have not figured out how to install programs downloaded on my PC any help would be welcome.
Thanks
Ps I will take the next Unix/LInux beginners course which starts in September

Hi
1. apt handle everything ,so you needn't remove anything by hand
i suggest you use aptitude it's watch the dependencies and when a package lost all of its reference the aptitude remove the package too
2. remove programs just use apt
i think you need edit your alternatives in /etc/alternatives/
use the "update-alternatives" command
3. Do you mean howto install programs from source?
