Moving from Fedora to Debian
Hi there,
I am trying to install Debian Etch 4.0r0 on a machine where I have Fedora 2.4 in a double-boot environment (Windows XP). I have several problems:
1.- I got Debian from a vendor in DVDs and when I try to set my DVD unit as bootable it doesn't show in the CMOS screen (only options are floppy, CD and HD). Does anybody know the way around this?
2.- I don't know if should I delete Fedora's partition before trying to install. My only choice to do this is through Partition Magic but I don't think this will update my dual-boot menu
3.- I haven't found a lot of doc about booting from DVD. Is this supp's to be so straight forward?
4.- having the images in DVD, what should I do if I can't boot from DVD. Can I create a boot disk from them and then try to load the rest from the DVDs? does this make sense?
Thanks!

Hi gerar,
Welcome to the LinuxForums.
Set 'Boot from CD' option as first boot device.1.- I got Debian from a vendor in DVDs and when I try to set my DVD unit as bootable it doesn't show in the CMOS screen (only options are floppy, CD and HD). Does anybody know the way around this?
it depends on you. if you want to keep Fedora, create unpartitioned/Free space and select that in Partition Section during installation.2.- I don't know if should I delete Fedora's partition before trying to install. My only choice to do this is through Partition Magic but I don't think this will update my dual-boot menu
if you want to install Debian over Fedora Partitions, delete those in Partition Section and create new for Debian.
you can use GParted LiveCD to create/delete/resize partitions.
dont tell me that. Did you Google? Debian's Installation Manual3.- I haven't found a lot of doc about booting from DVD. Is this supp's to be so straight forward?
Open and browse DVD in Windows. what does it has? .iso files OR .deb/text files and folders.4.- having the images in DVD, what should I do if I can't boot from DVD. Can I create a boot disk from them and then try to load the rest from the DVDs? does this make sense? It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
