Need to install Sarge on a new chipset

    Hi,

I need to install Sarge on pc that has an Nvidia 550 chipset.
The installer doesn't recognize the NIC or the SATA hard drive.

Etch install just fine, as it contains the 2.6.16 (or newer) kernel.

Is there a way to get Sarge to use this newer chipset?

    Thanks.

I'm setting up a particular program on this machine. This program has a dependency that is included with Sarge, but Etch has a new version that doesn't work with this program. So I need Sarge.

I've tried to load the driver manually. This chipset/NIC uses the forcedeth module. If I load that driver manually (by selecting it from the list that the debian installer gives me) it still doesn't work.

Looking on the Nvidia forums, I see that the drivers for this chipset were not released until the 2.6.16 kernel release and Sarge has the 2.6.8 kernel version.

Is there any way to get this to work?

    Thanks

    Hi.
I think your program wants an older library , maybe you can force the program use the older library , so you can install etch.
don't try install the old library.

    second.
install etch, compile a new kernel , and downgrade to sarge. It's not a nice solution but maybe the most simple
