DOS game problem (FreeDOS in Debian)

I am having trouble with a DOS game as when I try to configure/install it, it says it can not write to the config file. I am using FreeDOS with the latest Debian. I have tried giving full permisions to the config file, with no luck. The game will run in FreeDOS, but with no sound as this is set by the config file, and I would like to have the sound for this game, which is Master of Magic.

Any help would be useful. As I hope this is not a game issue, but a FreeDOS one.

This is under dosemu right? Sound is the hardest thing to get
right in an emulator. You need to determine whether it is a dosemu
issue or a freedos issue. Read all the dosemu docs. If it is a freedos
problem, understand that you can run a copy of genuine ms-dos
under dosemu. It may be more compatible with some programs.
