    Debian updates

I just started using Debian Etch. Like it a lot, it's as good as anything I have used. I was told that there is an update notice that will appear when there are updates. Since I am using KDE instead of Gnome, is this still the case?

Also, I would like to know how good the wireless support is with Debian Etch. My wife has a laptop that I am thinking about installing on.

    Thanks for the help.

It depends on which wireless card the laptop has. Anyway, if it is not supported natively you can as well use windows drivers, so I don't think there is a problem with that.

Regarding your first question there must be an updater running on startup and checking for updates

It is an Acer laptop. The card has a Broadcom 4318 chipset in it.

I found Adept package manager and update notifier with Synaptic and installed them but I can't find the system tray icon that needs to be there.
