    Talking BIIG Debain...

    Wow, i must say... WOW!!

i went to the download page for the newest debian, great number 4... and found out that i need to download 21 cd's... WOW!! is that big or what... please dont get me wrong, i am not trying to bag out debian for being so... well... LAARGE... because i love debian, i keep on coming back to it after i have tried other distro's, and i even have it constantly installed on my other computer (which is an old dying laptop)... techniqually it was the first linux distro i installed (because i was using knoppix, and thats debian based... well, after failing installing that properly... i installed debian)...

well, now i might get strait to the point instead of shooting off like i always do...

Why is it so large... why do i have to download all that (because i will... just you watch me)... i mean whats on all of those cds, is there a list where i can see whats on the different cd's...

thanks for reading what i have to say and question... :P

btw... just realised this after i posted... i kinda spelt debian wrong... sorry... typo... :P

I have never used the entire cd set. I usually use the netinstall cd to make a minimal install and then use apt-get to install the packages I need from the net. I think the cd or dvd sets are good for those that do not have an internet connection or those with slow connections.

ah, see i fit in the catagory with person with unreliable internet at the moment... :P so yeah, leatching off the uni's wireless.. aka, downloading them all at uni... HAHA!! great fun..

i did net install a while ago with my laptop, but now that i have a computer that can read cd's (because my laptop cant, its that old... :P) i have decided to download everything just for ease and also, because then i will have all the packages... and dont need to download anymore, only need to update... :P

but seriously, many other distro's have most 6-8 cd's... and debian has 21... WOW!!! thats a lot of packages... :P someone at debian must of thought "gee... why dont we put every package in there under the sun..."

i would buy the cd's... buuut... no $$$, seriously... not even $5

Yep, that's basically the case, but even if you had all the CDs/DVDs, it's very unlikely that you'd install all the packages.

The netinstall is really the best way to go but if you don't have a fast connection to the web, it's not a feasible option. I'm not sure if there's any kind of mini-sets of Debian available on CD/DVD, or not.
