    CD mounting problems

I'm using Debian etch on a Dell Latitude D610 laptop. Previously, I've just been able to throw in an audio cd and it would appear on my desktop, sometime in the recent past this has apparently stopped working. Furhtermore, I attempted to manually mount it with the following error:

    sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/scd0 /cdrom
mount: block device /dev/scd0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/scd0,
    missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
    dmesg | tail or so

any ideas what's going on(this is just a standard, bought audio cd, not burned or anything)

You can't mount Music CD as iso9660 in principal only data drive can be mounted see this link CDfs v2.6.18

alright I don't have any particular interest in mounting it, I just need to be able to play it, there is no disk recognition at all when I put an audio cd in - how can I play it?

If no one of your GUI application are reading the CDRom try in the terminal cdplay.
