Ok, I am at a loss here. I can't get my Actiontec External modem to do ANYTHING! Won't dial out, no dial tone, not even an attempt. I've tried kppp and minicom with no success. I've even tried another Actiontec modem of the same kind. The model is EX560LKA. I've read so many message boards and everyone says that these modems are supposed to be some of the easiest to get working in Linux. However I am having difficulties.

I am still a noob when it comes to Linux, but not when it comes to modems.

Troubleshooting I have done:
-Verified the Serial port (ttyS0), there is only one serial port on the computer, and it's the only serial port I get a response from.
-I have tried ATZ and initialization strings and I have gotten "OK" from the modem (modem lights blink too)
-I have tried ATDT3333333, and no response from modem. No errors, no attempt to dial.
-I even tried Actiontec's advice and use the ATD_3333333 when dialing, no luck.
-I have a phone hooked up to the modem and I get a dial tone in the phone.
-If I have the phone picked up and when I try to dial, I get a brief *click* on the line, and then just dial tone.

My computer Specs:
Debian 4.0
P4 2.8ghz
Dell Optiplex GX280
512mb RAM

Thanks to any who can help.
