no sound. Think there is something wrong with the driver

Hi, I just installed Debian and it hits me that my earphones and loudspeakers suddenly do not work. I checked the volume monitor and control and they both indicate that there is some sound on the system, I just am not able to hear it and I doubt that my ears are the problem.

Okay, now I got another sound problem. There is no sound on my iceweasel browser. I can watch flash movies but not listen to them. What do I do?

Which version of Flash do you have installed? Are you running a 64-bit pc?

you know. I would love to tell you, but honestly I do not know which version of flash I installed. I just typed in the url youtube.com and iceweasel told me that I should install some plugins and I just pressed yes and then it was installed. I have not been able to find out where the plugins are installed and therefore cannot tell you.

    I am running a 32-bit pc.

I suggest downloading flash manually and install it. Installing it is as simple as running ./flashplayer-installer from the extracted directory. It will create a file called libflashplayer.so under ./mozilla/plugins (in your home directory. To check your plugins directory input this URL in Firefox:
about : plugins (Note that the double-period must be against the about and plugins, I seperated them to prevent the forum to make a " " smiley.

I am not sure what you mean by "the extracted directory", sorry.

Okay, I tried to run alsaconf again and suddenly iceweasel/firefox was able to give me sound. Thank you so much, Netstrider.
