Direct Rendering: ATI issues

Hey I'm trying to get direct rendering to work on my laptop. Its running Etch. The graphics card in ATI Mobility Radeon x700.

I've tried installing the debian fglrx packages, and I've tried going to the ATI site itself and getting the proper drivers from there. Both installation went smoothly.To the best of my knowledge I've configured Xorg correctly, but card still doesn't want to work.

Instead of saying Mesa for rendering it should say fglrx. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the exact same problem with my Radeon 9800XT pro. Bump for hope.
